The Bellmore-Merrick Central HS District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to serve as a full-year leave replacement. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the New York State Science Learning Standards and foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.

General Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement effective science instruction for middle school students (grades 7–8)
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with NYS Science Learning Standards
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
  • Incorporate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences and laboratory activities
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom and laboratory environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities

  • Teach middle school mathematics classes (grades 7–8), including daily instruction, lesson planning, assessments, and differentiation.

  • Maintain a supportive, engaging, and structured classroom environment.

  • Collaborate with grade-level and department colleagues to ensure consistency in curriculum and instruction.

  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and school staff regarding progress and expectations.

  • Support students with diverse learning needs and implement accommodations as required.

  • Fulfill standard professional responsibilities, including attending meetings, supervising activities, and contributing to the school community.

- Assess and evaluate students' health conditions and develop appropriate care plans
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies
- Provide health education and counseling to students, families, and staff
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to promote a healthy school environment
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students using the student management system
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as needed

-Provide care for students on a medical bus before school, after school, or during community trips
- Coordinate with community healthcare providers for specialized services or referrals
